Tournaments and championships in and around Hamburg 38

The Hamburger Schachverband sets the frame of the tournament year: the Hamburg individual championship in late spring, the women's, seniors' and blitz championships, the Dähne cup with qualifying rounds hosted by the clubs over the summer, a team cup and the Landesliga. Many of the federation's events are played at the Stadtteilschule Alter Teichweg.

Clubs add their own series. The Hamburger Schachklub holds a Christmas open from 27 to 30 December and an Easter open, and the Sekt oder Selters tournament counts its editions past a hundred. The Schachvereinigung Blankenese runs rapid, blitz and youth events in the canteen of the Lise-Meitner-Gymnasium; the Schachfreunde Hamburg play the Peter-Dankert-Turnier and the Herbert-Kretzschmar-Pokal on Horner Weg and a holiday tournament in July; SV Lurup, Union Eimsbüttel, SV Eidelstedt and Wilhelmsburg have yearly events, and Pinneberg its open city championship. The entries list each edition with the date it was given.
